The Road Warrior

Rocky Mountain Tech Team Solutions for accessing your business documents away from the office

Many of our customers would like the ability to access their business files while they are on the road or at home. Here are the three most commons solutions with some pros and cons.

Remote Desktop: Remote desktop is a utility built in to Windows XP Pro and Vista Business that allows you to remotely control your office computer. Think of your remote location as a virtual keyboard, mouse and monitor for your work computer

Virtual Private Network (VPN): A VPN is a tunnel that essentially makes your remote computer a member of the office network, in general a VPN is significantly slower than most other solutions but does allow access to database driven applications

FolderShare: FolderShare is a free service provided by Microsoft (can you believe it) that allows you to keep designated folders on your office computer mirrored with your remote computer. One advantage of FolderShare is that you do not need an internet connection to use it, offline files will synchronize upon reconnection

Let us know if any of these solutions sound appealing for you and your office.

Laurie - The Secret Crabber

Rocky Mountain Tech TeamMost folks know Laurie fixes computers and enjoys the typical Colorado activities, but did you know that she is a secret crabber. Nope, not a new song just a favorite childhood pastime, crabbing for blue crabs with her dad.

Imagine, sitting in a lovely marsh, swatting horse flies and anticipating the blue crabs, tempted by fish heads, to climb their way into the waiting net. When you think the net has been on the muddy marsh floor long enough you pull it up and see how many delectable treats you have nabbed. Sometimes one, but sometimes a whole mess. Dump them into the cooler, careful not to let one get loose in the boat.

Finally, take the scampering blue prizes home, gut them and prepare for the picking feast. Now who would not enjoy a day spent like that? Laurie has a weekend planned next month to do just that.
